I talked David in to going to Salt Lake and waiting in the standby line for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas concert (which gets sold out in a day). I thought he knew what this meant, but until last night, he did not. It meant getting there at 5:30 and waiting in the cold and in the confrence center in a line for 2 hours to find out if we could get in, and too bad if we don't. When we got to Salt Lake, he said "We're doing what?!". For weeks now, I've been telling him how wonderful he is to do this with me because I knew he would hate it.
Anyway, we parked, ran 3 blocks and crossed the street 3 times to get to where we were supposed to be, were handed our "tickets" (number 221 and 222) and prepared to wait. Then this sweet older woman came up to us and said "We don't need these tickets. Do you want them?" I screamed and jumped up and down and hugged her like and idiot, but I really wanted to see this concert. So we walked past the line of 220 standbyers, not looking them in the eye, of course, and took our awesome seats.
The concert was amazing!!!!!!! I can't say too many times how much I love the Choir. I started crying from the moment music started, and lots more throughout the whole thing. But the best part was when Richard Elliott started snapping and playing "Go Tell it on the Mountain" with his feet on the organ, and then rockin' out with his fingers. It was a self-arranged version of the song and it was like nothing I've ever seen. He's my new hero. Way to go, Elliott.
The other best part was the HallelujahChorus, which of course was spectacular beyond words, but at the very last note, they showed Mack Wilburg on the big screen, and the look on his face I cannot describe. It put a sense of reverence and awe in my soul, and I thought of how amazing it must be to be directing the Choir and Orchestra in that song. A flood of tears followed. There were just too many best parts.
Also, Edward Herrman was the guest, and I just realized that he was on Overboard. I can't believe I never knew that. He was so great. Brian Stokes was awesome. The whole thing was so full of beauty and talent. It was the best concert I've ever been to.
