Deer Valley Music Festival

Last weekend David and I drove up to Park City to hear the Utah Symphony play with the Mormon Tablernacle Choir. I didn't realize until after I bought the tickets that it was in Park City. If I had known, I don't think we would have tried such an adventure. I'm so glad I didn't know though. It was the best date night ever (minus the quick stop at McDonald's). The drive alone was spectacular. Every time we drive outside of the valley areas we are just amazed at how beautiful Utah is. Not that where we live isn't gorgeous, but the rest of it is, too (except parts along the way to St. George).

So, stupid me, all I pictured was chillin' on a blanket with my sweetheart listening to amazing music in the perfect Utah summer evening. Well, turns out that it's way cooler at night up at the ski resorts of Park City. In fact, I wish I had brought a ski parka. Luckily we brought a big blanket and there was an army jacket in David's trunk. I could have used some socks that night.

The music was spectacular! I can't say in words the feelings the Choir brings to me. They sang a series of folk music from around the world, and after intermission they sang religious songs. Some men in kilts brought out the bagpipes and they sang/played Amazing Grace. I don't think I've ever heard it performed that way and it was amazing. The cymbols crashed at the end, the crowd broke out in applause and we broke out in tears. And they finished with the Star Spangled Banner, which you can't listen to without bawling when they perform it.

We drove home through Heber Valley and Provo Canyon, where the full moon highlighted the skyline of the mountains. It was breathtaking. I like living here:)

Those concerts are the best! I'm jealous you were able to go to the MoTab one, I bet it was incredible. My agency did their advertising last year, so we came into tickets a few times. We didn't score the Tony Bennett ones, though. There was a literal mad dash foot race for those ones.

It sounds wonderful! We've been stuck in the canyon without jackets at least three times now. When will I learn to pack a parka?

No! Not the bagpipes! They make me cry even if they're playing "happy birthday"
